Lee Morgan - Live at the Lighthouse

for anyone not in the "know", Lee Morgan is one of the best trumpeters that have graced our dear earth.
he played with almost everybody from the 50's, when he was 19 to '72.
his playing was always soulful and full of feeling - even through his hard use of narcotics. be it the mellower 50s stuff or the wild hard-bop of his later years, he always moves me.
he died aged 33, shot by his good for nothing common law wife, 2 days after his birthday. curses upon her and her offspring for the next 7 generations!
read HERE more about him.

this live set was recorded on July 10-12, 1970.
its is alive with very, VERY long tracks (most are over 13 minutes long), that are modal to an almost painful extent.
i do think Coltrane influenced him.
this live set is not his usually known hard bop, but it is great none the less. if you will notice the tune names you will notice the abundance of psychotics there. the names proide a real feel for the tunes as they have a great excitment to them. his version here of his classic SIDEWINDER is stunning.

to me, he is in equal to these jazz trumpeters - miles, clifford, chet.

miss this at your own peril!
* i will also add more of Lee Morgan's albums in the near future, so lets have requests and comments please.
